Soft Component of Hard Reactions and Nuclear Shadowing
نویسنده
چکیده
We consider deep-inelastic lepton scattering, Drell-Yan lepton pair and heavy quark production in the reference frame of the target. These reactions traditionally treated as hard have, however, a substantial leading twist soft contribution. One of the manifestations of such a soft component, nuclear shadowing, is overviewed. ∗Invited talk at the Workshop Hirschegg’95: Dynamical Properties of Hadrons in Nuclear Matter. Interplay of Soft and Hard Interactions in Nuclear Shadowing at High Q and Low x
Nuclear shadowing corrections are dominated by soft interaction and grow as function of 1/x more slowly than the single scattering term, which has an essential contribution from hard interaction. Therefore we predict vanishing nuclear shadowing at very low x provided that Q is high and fixed. At the same time, at medium and low Q, nuclear shadowing grows with 1/x as is well known for soft hadro...
متن کاملHadron Interactions–hadron Sizes
Hadronic interactions are successfully parameterized in different models. Those most frequently applied are the Regge parameterization and the geometrical model. In the present paper we want to apply the geometrical picture to different domains of the hadronic interaction. The model used is a very economical model in that it contains only few parameters most of which have a direct physical inte...
متن کاملNovel QCD Effects from Initial and Final State Interactions
Initial-state and final-state interactions which are conventionally neglected in the parton model, have a profound effect in QCD hard-scattering reactions. The effects, which arise from gluon exchange between the active and spectator quarks, cause leading-twist single-spin asymmetries, diffractive deep inelastic scattering, diffractive hard hadronic reactions, and the breakdown of the Lam-Tung ...
متن کاملScaling Variable for Nuclear Shadowing in Deep-Inelastic Scattering∗
A new scaling variable is introduced in terms of which nuclear shadowing in deepinelastic scattering is universal, i.e. independent of A, Q2 and x. This variable can be interpreted as a measure of the number of gluons probed by the hadronic fluctuations of a virtual photon during their lifetime. The shadowing correction grows at small x substantially less steeply than is suggested by the eikona...
متن کاملDFTT 24/93 May/1993 IN SEARCH FOR (QUANTUM) COLOR TRANSPARENCY
Color transparency (CT) is an effect of suppression of nuclear shadowing of hard reactions, closely related to the color screening. A brief review of theoretical development and experimental search for CT, failed and successful, are presented. A special emphasis is made on a quantum-mechanical nature of CT, as opposed to a wide spread erroneousclassical treatment of this phenomenon. The typical...
